By the SiapPergi Editorial Team · Published · 7 min read

Surfers and sunset chasers often shuttle between Canggu and Uluwatu. It isn't far, but the route crosses the busiest junctions in south Bali. Leave at the right time and the ride is much quicker.
The main route step by step
- From Canggu head towards Kerobokan via Jl. Raya Canggu or Umalas.
- Join Sunset Road towards Kuta.
- At the Dewa Ruci junction, take the Ngurah Rai Bypass south past the airport.
- Continue to Jimbaran, then turn onto Jl. Raya Uluwatu, which climbs onto the Bukit Peninsula.
- Follow signs to Pecatu, Bingin, Padang Padang or Uluwatu Temple.
When to leave
| Time | Estimate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 am | ± 1 hour | Smoothest, ideal for the morning swell |
| 10 am–2 pm | ± 1–1.25 hours | Hot, but moderate traffic |
| 4–7 pm | 1.5–2+ hours | Peak traffic on Sunset Road & Dewa Ruci |
Beaches to stop at
- Bingin and Padang Padang — surf and cliffs.
- Suluban — a beach tucked into a gap in the cliffs near Uluwatu.
- Melasti — a photogenic cliff road.
- Uluwatu Temple — sunset and the Kecak dance; arrive early because parking fills fast.
