Bali has world-class diving, and many of the best sites are shore dives you can reach yourself. A scooter lets you base yourself in Amed, dive Tulamben in the morning and explore the coast in the afternoon. Here's how to plan it.

Packing for a dive trip by scooter
- Leave heavy gear at the dive centre; carry only a backpack with mask, computer and swimwear.
- Bring a dry bag for your phone and documents.
- Wear proper clothes and shoes for the ride, not wet swimwear and flip-flops.
- Fill up in Amlapura; there are only roadside petrol sellers along the Amed coast.
